Iraq has signed two financing agreements totalling €130 million ($147.81 million) with the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) to support the development of wastewater treatment infrastructure.
According to the Iraq News Agency, the funding will be used for two sanitation projects intended to improve service delivery and public health in underserved regions.
The first agreement provides a €30 million supplementary loan for the Khalidiya sewer project in Anbar Province, increasing its total financing to €110 million. The second allocates €100 million for the Hamza sewer project in Diwaniya Province.
Finance Minister Taif Sami noted that the agreements are designed to facilitate the transfer of French expertise and technology in wastewater treatment to Iraq, with the goal of improving living standards and health conditions in the targeted areas.
