About the entity

Manx Utilities has announced that the new Crosby Wastewater Treatment Works, serving the growing communities of Crosby and Glen Vine, is nearing completion and already receiving flows from the catchment area. Scheduled to be fully online by the end of April, the upgraded facility will significantly improve effluent quality entering the adjacent River Dhoo, marking a major advancement in the Isle of Man’s environmental infrastructure.

Located on the Isle of Man (Manx: Ellan Vannin), a crown dependency in the Irish Sea between Great Britain and Ireland, the scheme reflects the island’s commitment to modernising essential services while protecting its natural resources. Built by local contractor Paul Carey & Sons Ltd, with the support of off-Island specialists, the project has remained on time and within budget.

This project replaces the outdated treatment works originally built in the 1960s, which no longer met modern standards. Designed to meet the demands of a growing population and support sustainable development, the new plant incorporates advanced treatment processes and odour control technologies to maximise operational efficiency while minimising environmental impact. As the biological treatment process matures over the coming weeks, the works will begin delivering consistent improvements in water quality, reducing pollutants discharged into the River Dhoo and surrounding ecosystems.

John Wannenburgh MHK, Chair of Manx Utilities, praised the delivery team’s work and expressed confidence in future developments, including the upcoming Peel scheme. The Crosby facility represents a vital step forward in addressing community wastewater needs while safeguarding the island’s waterways for future generations.
