Jacobs, a global leader in engineering solutions, has been selected by Northern Ireland Water (NI Water) to provide strategic planning and design services through a newly established professional services framework. This partnership is part of a broader effort to enhance water and wastewater services across Northern Ireland, benefiting approximately 840,000 households and businesses.
Under the framework, Jacobs will support the remaining phases of NI Water's current Business Plan, a comprehensive six-year investment initiative aimed at modernizing essential infrastructure. This program includes substantial upgrades to water and wastewater facilities to improve efficiency, capacity, and resilience against climate challenges.
Jacobs' role encompasses a range of services: conducting feasibility studies, crafting detailed designs, and developing strategies for climate adaptation and net-zero planning. Major project design, network modeling, and climate resilience planning are key components of Jacobs' contribution, which aligns with the framework's four-year timeline, with an option for up to four years of extension.
"Jacobs is committed to supporting NI Water in strengthening the resilience and efficiency of its water and wastewater systems," stated Kate Kenny, Senior Vice President at Jacobs. "This framework allows us to bring our expertise in sustainable infrastructure and climate adaptation to help NI Water address both current and future demands."
This recent appointment builds on Jacobs’ ongoing work with NI Water. The company was previously a design consultant within NI Water's Major Project Partnership Framework in 2022 and was named Sustainability Reporting Partner in 2024 under the Crown Commercial Services Management Consultancy Framework.
Jacobs serves diverse clients across Ireland in areas like Advanced Manufacturing, Urban Development, Energy, Environmental Services, Life Sciences, Transportation, and Water. Its expertise spans from water treatment to resource recovery, supporting initiatives such as Uisce Éireann’s strategic planning in Ireland, United Utilities' capital projects in the U.K., and the King County South Treatment Plant project in Washington State, USA.
