Jacobs has been appointed to oversee a $800 million upgrade to the King County Wastewater Treatment Division's infrastructure, according to a press release by Jacobs. The enhancements aim to improve water quality and system resilience for around two million residents in Seattle and the central Puget Sound area.
Drawing on its extensive experience with large-scale infrastructure projects, Jacobs will manage the South Treatment Plant Facility Program from its inception through to design, construction, and commissioning phases. The South Treatment Plant, situated in Renton, is a key facility in King County's wastewater management, processing an average of 115 million gallons of wastewater daily during wet weather, and 96 million gallons per day in dry conditions. The site also includes educational programs and the CitySoil demonstration farm, which yields approximately 4,000 pounds of food annually for a local food bank.
Jacobs Senior Vice President Katus Watson said: "The South Treatment Plant Facility Program represents both a cross-generational investment in local Washington state communities and a commitment to preserve water quality throughout the region. With our industry-leading program management team, coupled with our planning, design and construction management resources, we'll provide King County with an ideal mix of delivery experience to bring this important infrastructure program to fruition.”
