A French consortium consisting of Meridiam and Suez has been selected as the preferred bidder for Jordan’s National Water Carrier initiative, commonly referred to as the Aqaba Amman Desalination and Water Conveyance project, according Jordan News Agency.
A Special Procurement Committee will soon initiate direct negotiations with the selected consortium for this multi-billion-dollar venture. The project aims to provide 300 million cubic meters of desalinated water annually from the Red Sea through a dedicated pipeline.
"This milestone reflects confidence by major international investment groups in Jordan's economy," Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh said on Monday.
Jordan has already secured financial commitments and agreements amounting to approximately $2.2 billion in grants and concessional loans. The total cost of the project is projected to reach up to 3 billion Jordanian dinars ($4.2 billion), based on previous media reports and official statements.
