Kurita expands U.S. PFAS strategy with investment in Cyclopure Inc. and exclusive DEXSORB rights

Kurita Water Industries has announced a strategic investment in Cyclopure Inc., strengthening its collaboration with the U.S.-based firm and advancing its PFAS-related business in the United States. As part of the expanded agreement, Kurita has secured exclusive sales rights for Cyclopure’s DEXSORB adsorbent for industrial and certain municipal water applications in the country.

The partnership builds on ongoing cooperation between the two companies and reflects a focus on scaling up solutions for PFAS removal. DEXSORB, developed by Cyclopure, is a plant-based adsorbent derived from beta-cyclodextrin. It is designed for targeted PFAS removal and is reported to maintain stable performance under a range of water conditions, including the presence of natural organic matter, inorganic ions and varying pH levels. The material can also be regenerated, enabling the concentration of PFAS waste for further treatment.

Kurita America Inc., the group’s U.S. arm, has been working with Cyclopure since September 2025 under a prior agreement aimed at expanding PFAS treatment applications. Activities to date have included technical evaluations of DEXSORB in water treatment systems for both municipal and industrial uses. Kurita America is also involved in the design, construction and commissioning of equipment for a regeneration facility that Cyclopure plans to build in Michigan to process spent adsorbent for reuse.

Looking ahead, the two companies plan to further develop PFAS treatment operations in the United States, including the deployment of industrial-scale regeneration infrastructure and the distribution of regenerated media. Kurita America also intends to integrate DEXSORB into its water treatment solutions for utilities, supporting compliance with regulatory requirements. The initiative is expected to serve as a foundation for expanding these solutions to other markets, including Japan and Europe.
