Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy has announced that bids for the second phase of the Doha West Seawater Reverse Osmosis Desalination Plant, along with associated equipment to increase water alkalinity, are scheduled to open on July 22, reports Zawya.
According to ministry sources, if the timeline proceeds without delay, the Central Agency for Public Tenders (CAPT) will review the submissions and refer them to the ministry for technical evaluation within one month of the award date. The evaluation will include recommendations for selecting the proposal that best meets the required conditions and specifications.
Once a recommendation is made, CAPT is expected to finalize the award decision, after which the tender documents will be submitted to the State Audit Bureau (SAB) for further review and approval.
The ministry expects the project to enhance Kuwait’s strategic freshwater reserves by an additional 60 million imperial gallons per day. The reverse osmosis method allows for the production of potable water without the need for blending with groundwater.
Officials also noted the ministry’s ongoing commitment to carrying out infrastructure development projects related to electricity and water supply in order to accommodate the country’s growing demand.
