The Ministry of Public Works of Kuwait is expected to award the main construction contract for the country’s North Kabd sewage treatment plant expansion by the first quarter of 2023, ZAWYA reports.
The awarded company/consortium will be responsible for the management, operation, maintenance and implementation of the expansion of the existing Kabd sewage treatment plant and associated facilities. The treatment capacity will be increased by 90,000 cubic metres/day with a plan to raise the total capacity to 270,000 cubic metres/day.
The total cost of the expansion is estimated to be $500 million and is planned to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2025, a source close to the project told ZAWYA.
The same source also told the media outlet that “the tender for the main construction contract was floated on 24 July 2022. The bid submission date was extended from 23 August 2022 twice to 13 September and then to 16 October 2022,” but did not give further explanations to why the deadlines were extended.
