Dr. Subaih Al-Mukhaizeem, Kuwait’s Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, issued a ministerial decision this week to form a committee dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of rationalizing electricity and water consumption among both citizens and residents, reports Zawya. The committee's focus will be on sustainability, particularly during the summer months.
In a press statement, the Ministry of Electricity and Water announced that the committee will be led by Undersecretary Dr. Adel Al-Zamel. It will include specialists from the ministry, as well as representatives from several key institutions, including the Ministries of Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research, Islamic Affairs, Commerce and Industry, Information, the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training, and the Federation of Industries.
The committee will also focus on educating the community about adopting energy-efficient systems and water-saving technologies in residential buildings, factories, agricultural holdings, and public institutions
The committee's primary responsibility is to develop a comprehensive series of awareness programs designed to emphasize the importance of rational consumption. These programs will also highlight how efficient resource usage directly contributes to the preservation of public funds and the protection of the environment. The programs will be communicated through various media outlets and social media platforms.
Additionally, the committee will engage with civil society organizations and major economic sectors to raise awareness, particularly during the summer months, from May through the end of September. Special attention will be given to the peak consumption period between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.
The committee will also focus on educating the community about adopting energy-efficient systems and water-saving technologies in residential buildings, factories, agricultural holdings, and public institutions. It will organize workshops and lectures in public benefit associations, universities, and schools to further spread awareness.
Furthermore, the committee will collaborate with the private sector and scientific research institutions to implement joint projects that include renewable energy technologies on building roofs, enhance air conditioning systems, and employ modern technologies to rationalize water consumption.
The initiative aims to encourage responsible consumption practices and contribute to the sustainable management of the country’s resources.
