Kuwait's Central Agency for Public Tenders (CAPT) has given approval for the award of the Doha seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant project to a joint venture between Kuwait's Heavy Engineering Industries & Shipbuilding Co (HEISCO) and India's VA Tech Wabag. The contract, valued at 114.28 million Kuwaiti dinars (approximately $370 million), has a duration of 96 months.
HEISCO, listed on the Kuwait Stock Exchange, announced on Sunday that CAPT approved the award of Tender No. MEW 16/2024/2025 from the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy (MEWRE). The project involves the supply, erection, operation and maintenance services for the Doha SWRO Desalination Plant with a re-carbonation system (Stage-2). The joint venture, which submitted the lowest bid, has been selected for the contract.
Although the capacity of the plant was not specified in the statement, a report from Zawya Projects last week mentioned that CAPT approved MEWRE's recommendation to award the contract for Phase 2 of the 60 million imperial gallons per day (MIGD) Doha SWRO desalination plant.
