The Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (KAPP) plans to tender seven to eight projects in the near future, including the Al-Khairan Independent Water and Power Plant (IWPP), according to Zawya.
KAPP Acting Director General Asmaa Al-Mousa told Al Arabiya Business that tender documents for the Al-Khairan IWPP are expected to be approved soon. The project, located south of Kuwait City, is designed to have a power generation capacity of 1,800 megawatts (MW) and a desalination capacity of 125 million imperial gallons per day (MIGD).
Al-Mousa added that the authority is progressing on several renewable energy initiatives, including the Shagaya and Dabdaba projects, which are currently under tender, as well as other projects undergoing economic feasibility assessments.
Moreover, a Saudi-Kuwaiti consortium consisting of ACWA Power and the Gulf Investment Corporation (GIC) signed a 25-year power and water purchase agreement with KAPP and the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy. The agreement covers the Az-Zour North 2 and 3 Independent Water and Power Project (IWPP), which is valued at approximately $4 billion.
