Kuwait’s Hawally Water Distribution Complex moves closer to contract award

  • Kuwait’s Hawally Water Distribution Complex moves closer to contract award

Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy has taken a key step toward advancing the Hawally Water Distribution Complex, a strategic infrastructure project designed to strengthen water supply reliability in one of the country’s most densely populated governorates. According to Zawya, the ministry has formally requested approval from the Central Agency for Public Tenders (CAPT) to award the contract to the lowest qualified bidder, with a total value of KD42.268 million (about US$138 million).

The request was presented during a CAPT meeting held earlier this month, following the completion of the project’s preliminary budget. In line with statutory requirements, the ministry submitted an official clearance from the Ministry of Finance, enabling the tendering process to move forward. CAPT’s Board of Directors authorized the preparation of the preliminary budget and instructed the ministry to proceed with selecting the lowest compliant bidder and submitting a final recommendation within 10 working days.

Once implemented, the Hawally complex is expected to significantly enhance national water system performance. Planned upgrades aim to expand freshwater storage capacity by 66 million gallons per day, while increasing potable water pumping capacity to 54.5 million gallons per day and brackish water pumping to 23.5 million gallons per day. These improvements are intended to address persistent issues of low water pressure, particularly during peak summer demand, and to ensure continuous supply for residents and businesses.

The Hawally project underscores Kuwait’s ongoing efforts to modernize its water distribution network while aligning infrastructure investment with increasing urban demand and long-term resource security.
