Lantania has been awarded a contract to construct a biosolids treatment plant in Al Badaa, located in the Tabuk region of northwest Saudi Arabia, valued at $84.3 million (€77.3 million), reports Europa Press.
The Spanish infrastructure, water, and energy company announced that this new facility will serve the Neom urban mega-project, currently under development. The contract, set for completion in 24 months, encompasses the design, construction, and commissioning of the biosolids treatment plant, along with an innovation centre and a biosolids demonstration centre.
In partnership with Saudi company Tawzea, Lantania will develop a plant to treat sludge from various treatment facilities in the area. The plant will have a capacity to process 32,300 kilograms per day, serving an equivalent population of 222,000 inhabitants.
Neom is envisioned as a futuristic mega-city spanning over 25,660 square kilometers in the Tabuk region. It is a key part of Saudi Arabia's 'Vision 2030' plan, which aims to diversify the country's economy and reduce its dependence on oil. The project is structured in several phases, with its most prominent component being The Line—a 170-kilometer long, car-free linear city featuring high-tech infrastructure and environmental sustainability.
