L&T consortium wins EPC contract for Ras Mohaisen IWP in Saudi Arabia
A consortium led by India’s Larsen & Toubro (L&T), alongside Spain’s Lantania, has secured the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for the Ras Mohaisen Independent Water Plant (IWP) in Saudi Arabia, according to an L&T press release. The project, awarded by ACWA Power, will have a total desalination capacity of 300,000 cubic metres per day.
L&T’s Water & Effluent Treatment (WET) Business will oversee the execution, which includes the design, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning of the seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination facility. The project scope covers intake and outfall facilities, process units, pumping stations, a 600,000 m³ potable water storage facility, and electrical, automation, and instrumentation systems. Additionally, a solar photovoltaic (PV) plant will be integrated into the facility.
Once completed, the plant will provide drinking water to Makkah Al-Mukarramah and Al-Baha, serving approximately one million people. This marks L&T’s second desalination contract in Saudi Arabia, reflecting its growing presence in the region’s water infrastructure sector.
In February, the Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC) signed the project agreements for the Ras Mohaisen Independent Water Plant Project. Tendered under the Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model, it was awarded to a consortium of ACWA Power, Haji Abdullah Alireza & Partners Company, and AlKifah Holding. The project, valued at $667 million, is expected to commence commercial operations in the first quarter of 2030.
The Ras Mohaisen IWP aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 sustainability goals, ensuring a reliable water supply through advanced desalination technology.
