  • Mace-Suez joint venture begins $378m drainage maintenance work in west Qatar

A joint venture between Mace Qatar and SUEZ SAS has begun work on the Qatar West drainage operations and maintenance framework, after securing a contract from Qatar’s Public Works Authority, Ashghal.

The contract, valued at about QAR1.4 billion, roughly $378 million, covers the operation and maintenance of drainage and sewerage assets across the Qatar West Catchment Zone, according to the companies.

Under the framework, the joint venture will be responsible for approximately 1,375km of foul sewer network and around 1,351km of surface and groundwater drainage lines. The scope of work also includes about 213km of treated sewage effluent network, the Doha West Sewage Treatment Works and associated pumping stations.

In a statement, Mace Qatar said it was “delighted to partner with SUEZ SAS” on the programme. The company said the framework would support Ashghal’s objectives through the use of advanced operational practices and smart monitoring technologies.

Ashghal has awarded a series of long-term operations and maintenance frameworks as part of its wider plan to manage and maintain drainage infrastructure across different zones of Qatar. The Qatar West framework is one of several regional contracts designed to support the ongoing operation of the country’s drainage networks.
