- Association says private water companies are continuing spending on system reliability and water quality improvements.
Members of the National Association of Water Companies (NAWC) invested nearly $6.8 billion in 2025 to improve water quality, strengthen reliability and upgrade infrastructure, according to the association.
NAWC said the investment was made by its 15 largest regulated, private water company members and represented spending on projects designed to maintain and improve water and wastewater systems across the United States.
The association said the 2025 investment contributed to a decade-long total of more than $43.5 billion spent by member companies on infrastructure improvements. NAWC said the funding has supported projects including the replacement of aging pipes, removal of lead service lines, upgrades to treatment facilities and other system improvements.
According to NAWC, private water companies continue to invest in infrastructure as part of efforts to provide reliable service and meet water quality requirements. The association said these projects help address infrastructure needs in communities served by its member companies.
“Investments in water infrastructure are essential to ensuring communities have access to safe and reliable water service,” NAWC President and CEO Robert F. Powelson said in the announcement. He added that the investments demonstrate the role of private water companies in maintaining and improving water systems.
NAWC represents regulated private water and wastewater companies operating in communities throughout the United States. The association said its members provide service to nearly 40 million Americans.
The $6.8 billion figure was reported by NAWC and was not accompanied by a separate public methodology report detailing the calculation.
