Netmore Group, a global leader in LoRaWAN network operations, has announced a strategic partnership with Vantage Towers, a major European provider of telecommunications infrastructure, to deliver nationwide LoRaWAN connectivity in Portugal. This collaboration is aimed at supporting digital transformation and advancing sustainability initiatives for utilities, municipalities, and other organizations.

Portugal is grappling with severe water scarcity, a challenge underscored by record droughts and significant water losses. The Algarve region, where reservoirs are only 20% full, is particularly affected. Additionally, nearly one-third of the country's water supply is lost through leaks, theft, or unauthorized use, according to ERSAR, Portugal’s national water agency. In response, water utilities are turning to Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) systems that leverage LoRaWAN technology for smart water metering, leak detection, and data collection to identify irregularities in usage.

Through this partnership, Netmore will deploy gateways on Vantage Towers’ expansive infrastructure, which includes more than 3,500 towers in Portugal. This initiative will expand Netmore’s carrier-grade public LoRaWAN network, enabling its Network-as-a-Service offering to reach more regions. Vantage Towers’ infrastructure, which spans over 84,000 sites across Europe, provides a reliable foundation for extending network coverage, capacity, and services.

Netmore’s Network-as-a-Service model simplifies connectivity for utilities, application providers, and device manufacturers. By utilizing existing LoRaWAN networks, organizations can implement solutions for water metering, waste management, and environmental monitoring without the cost or complexity of building their own infrastructure. Enhanced LoRaWAN connectivity will empower organizations to make data-driven decisions, improve operational efficiency, and optimize resource management.

The partnership underscores the growing adoption of LoRaWAN globally, driven by its cost-effectiveness, long-range capabilities, low power consumption, and flexible deployment models. This technology makes it feasible to build networks and deploy sensors even in previously inaccessible or cost-prohibitive locations, making it a preferred choice for large-scale IoT implementations.

According to Paolo Favaro, Managing Director of Vantage Towers Portugal, the partnership will enhance operations in critical sectors and contribute to sustainability efforts. Talis Talor, Managing Director of Netmore Portugal, emphasized that robust and accessible network connectivity is essential for organizations seeking to optimize operations, reduce costs, and achieve sustainability goals. By combining Netmore’s secure LoRaWAN network with Vantage Towers’ infrastructure, the partnership aims to drive digital transformation and improve quality of life across Portugal.
