AF Gruppen has signed a contract with the City of Oslo to construct a new water treatment plant at Huseby, a vital part of the city's New Water Supply project. This follows an earlier announcement on October 19, 2022, when AF Gruppen was selected for a partnering agreement with Oslo’s Water and Sewage Department.
The project, now entering its second phase, transitions from planning and design to detailed design and construction. This collaborative alliance involves the City of Oslo, AF Gruppen, and the design firm Multiconsult. The primary construction will take place within the mountain facility at Huseby.
AF Gruppen’s scope of work includes groundwork, concrete construction, process systems, dosing and sludge facilities, and electrical installations. The construction is already underway and is scheduled for completion by the fourth quarter of 2027. The contract is valued at approximately NOK 7.6 billion (excluding VAT).
“We are proud to be entrusted with this essential project for Oslo. Ensuring a safe and reliable water supply for the city’s residents is a responsibility we take seriously, and we look forward to continued collaboration with the City of Oslo,” said Amund Tøftum, CEO of AF Gruppen.
Addressing Oslo’s water supply vulnerabilities
Oslo currently relies on a single main water source, leaving the city’s supply vulnerable to disruptions. The New Water Supply project aims to bolster resilience by creating an alternative water supply sourced from Holsfjorden in Lier Municipality. The project also includes a robust water treatment plant and a new main pipeline network for Oslo. Once operational, the new system will ensure a reliable backup supply for the city’s residents.
