United Infrastructure has been awarded a contract by Northumbrian Water to serve as its smart metering solution installation partner for the North East of England.
The three-year contract, with an option to extend for an additional five years, will support Northumbrian Water’s goal of achieving a fully smart meter portfolio by 2035. The programme involves the installation of around 750,000 meters over the duration of the contract.
The rollout aims to provide customers with near real-time data on their water consumption, helping them make informed decisions to conserve water and manage costs. The technology is also expected to enhance Northumbrian Water’s ability to identify and repair leaks more efficiently, reducing water loss and contributing to the sustainability of local water resources.
United Infrastructure’s engineering team will work with Northumbrian Water to deliver an end-to-end installation service, incorporating planning, scheduling, and IT systems to streamline delivery. The company has supported Northumbrian Water since 2005, providing engineering expertise to help maintain and strengthen the region’s water network.
Gary Adams, Head of Metering at Northumbrian Water, said: "We’re excited to be working with United Infrastructure on our ambitious smart metering programme. This partnership is a key step in our journey to help our customers better understand and manage their water use, while protecting this precious resource for future generations."
