Northumbrian Water Group has confirmed a £400 million equity investment from its shareholders to support delivery of its business plan for the 2025–2030 regulatory period (AMP8), its largest programme to date focused on customers and environmental performance.
The funding, provided by long-term investors including CK Infrastructure Holdings (CKI) and KKR, underlines continued confidence in the company. The investment is intended to safeguard future service quality, ensuring customers continue to benefit from a reliable and high-performing water provider, while accelerating planned improvements and delivering measurable environmental gains over the next five years.
The equity injection contributes to a broader AMP8 capital programme exceeding £4 billion across North East England, Essex and Suffolk—more than double the level invested during AMP7. This programme centres on strengthening network resilience, enhancing operational performance, and improving environmental outcomes, while supporting long-term service reliability.
According to the company, early-stage funding provided ahead of AMP8 approval enabled preparatory work to begin in advance, maintaining momentum from the previous regulatory cycle and allowing the 2025–2030 investment plan to progress without delay.
From an investor perspective, the latest capital commitment reflects a long-term ownership approach focused on operational excellence, efficiency and financial robustness.”Since 2011, under the CK Group’s ownership and guidance, Northumbrian Water has consistently been a top-performing water company across financial and operational barometers. CKI is providing the financial resources and strategic stewardship to ensure this trajectory continues for Northumbrian Water into the future,” said Andrew Hunter, Co-Managing Director of CKI and Chair of Northumbrian Water.
Overall, the investment highlights the role of stable, long-term capital in enabling utilities to deliver large-scale infrastructure programmes while balancing customer needs, environmental obligations and regulatory requirements.
