Eduardo Serra, the longstanding Chairman of the Board at NTT Data, has announced his departure after nearly two decades at the helm, the technology consultancy firm revealed this week. This move comes as part of the group's strategic transformation efforts, which entail a reorganization of the Board of Directors in Europe and Latin America, regions managed from Spain.
In a bid to streamline operations and enhance market positioning, NTT Ltd. and NTT DATA's businesses outside Japan are set to merge, forming a technology services company with 140,000 employees globally and business in more than 80 countries, according to El Mundo.
Serra will remain as an external advisor to the Group and his departure is accompanied by the resignation of other Spanish independent directors, including Pedro Luis Uriarte, former CEO of BBVA; Pilar Zulueta, director of Dorna Sports; Alejandro Ferreiro, former Chilean Minister of Economy; and Mónica de Oriol, president of Net4Things.
NTT Data frames these board changes as part of a broader corporate restructuring initiative, leaving open the possibility of replacing outgoing independent directors with new appointees. In the interim, the Board will comprise solely of company executives, reflecting NTT Data's substantial presence in Spain, where it employs over 20,000 professionals.
The Japanese company NTT Data acquired Spanish consultancy firm Everis in 2013, maintaining its distinct brand identity until the integration of the group's corporate image at the close of 2021. Since then, the company has witnessed several shifts in leadership, with the latest being the departure of Sergi Biosca as CEO in October 2023, succeeded by Victor López-Barrantes, an internal appointee.
