Saudi Arabia’s National Water Company, NWC, has issued a tender for the construction of 10 sewage treatment plants as part of the next phase of its long term operations and maintenance sewage treatment programme, reports MEED.
The Eastern A Cluster package, known as LTOM14, is expected to deliver a total treatment capacity of 184,440 cubic metres per day, with an estimated cost of 180 million dollars. The deadline for bid submissions is set for 30 September.
This tender follows recent contract awards for other parts of the programme, including the North Western A Cluster, LTOM11, and the Northern Cluster, LTOM10. A consortium made up of Jiangsu United Water Technology, Prosus Energy, and Armada Holding has been appointed as contractor for both projects.
LTOM11 is planned to have a combined capacity of about 440,000 cubic metres per day, with an estimated cost of SR211 million, or 56.3 million dollars. LTOM10 is expected to provide a capacity of 337,800 cubic metres per day, at an estimated cost of SR203 million, or 54.1 million dollars.
In April, NWC opened financial bids for the North Western B Cluster, LTOM12, which involves the construction and upgrade of seven sewage treatment plants with a total capacity of around 162,000 cubic metres per day. Proposals were submitted by Alkhorayef Water & Power Technologies, Civil Works Company, Miahona, Beijing Enterprises Water Group, and Al Yamama. The bids are currently under evaluation, and a contract award is expected in the coming weeks.
The North Western C Cluster, LTOM13, had previously been placed on hold, but it is now expected to be the next package to be tendered. Under the original scope, this package also includes the construction of 10 sewage treatment plants.
The LTOM programme consists of 19 packages divided into two phases. The LTOM10 contract was the first to be awarded under the second phase, which focuses on the rehabilitation of sewage treatment plants. Discussions have taken place in recent months regarding possible changes to the scope and the grouping of future projects.
During the first phase, NWC awarded contracts worth 2.5 billion dollars. This phase included nine packages designed to treat 4.6 million cubic metres per day of sewage water over a period of 15 years. The second phase includes 10 packages covering a total of 117 treatment plants.
