The Barka V Desalination Plant in Oman has officially entered its commercial operations phase, marking a significant milestone in the country’s infrastructure development. GS Inima has successfully completed the final acceptance tests of the facility. The plant is now delivering water to Nama Power & Water Procurement Company, Oman’s sole procurer of power and water capacity and output.
The Barka V project has achieved full operational capacity, producing 105,000 m³/day. During the reliability testing phase, the plant consistently operated at 100,000 cubic meters per day for 30 consecutive days, ensuring a stable supply of high-quality drinking water. The plant, which began construction in March 2022 and was completed in June 2024, will serve an estimated 800,000 residents across Muscat, Dakhiliyah, and Batinah—some of the most populous regions in the country.
GS Inima led the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) efforts for the project, overseeing all aspects from the initial design to the final commissioning of the plant. The facility employs advanced reverse osmosis technology, coupled with rigorous pre-treatment and post-treatment processes, to ensure the highest standards of water quality.
In addition to its technical achievements, the Barka V project has set a new benchmark for health and safety in the industry. The construction phase was completed with over 3 million work hours logged without any lost time incidents (LTI).
