Oriana da Inez Correira has been appointed as Technical Director at COWI UK, as the company expands its water services. In her new role, Oriana da Inez Correia will provide technical leadership and support the strategic growth of COWI within the UK water industry.
Oriana has over eighteen years of experience in water and wastewater infrastructures. She has worked on a broad range of projects from preliminary to detailed design stages, in consultancy and regulatory agencies both in the UK and internationally. Her expertise includes leadership of multi-disciplinary teams and stakeholder engagement in the water industry, particularly in surface water and wastewater infrastructure projects, such as combined sewage overflows and sustainable urban drainage solutions.
A Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM), Oriana is also an ICE Reviewer and Supervising Civil Engineer. She is a strong advocate for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and has been leading an eighteen-month project at a local primary school in Leeds which aims to increase biodiversity within the school grounds.
During her career, Oriana da Inez Correira has been the recipient of many awards that recognize her achievements within the industry. These include winning the 2019 CIWEM Sustainable Project of the Year award for her work on sustainable solutions to address rising main bursts in Yorkshire, in collaboration with GHD, Barhale and Yorkshire Water. Most recently, she received the 2024 Design Studies and Research Award at the ICE East and West Midlands Merit Awards for her collaborative efforts in the Yorkshire Water Storm Spill Reduction Programme. Working alongside industry leaders, such as GHD and Galliford Try, she demonstrated her commitment to employing cutting edge technology and sustainable solutions.

At COWI, Oriana will work alongside the fellow Technical Director, John Boyd, and collaborate with delivery teams across all UK offices. COWI’s newly appointed leadership team reaffirms their commitment to finding innovative, sustainable and cooperative solutions to the challenges faced by the UK’s water industry.
