About the entity

The first phase of the Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant, a project undertaken by the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), is on track for completion in the third quarter of 2025, reports Zawya.

According to Ashghal’s official website, the facility will serve as a state-of-the-art plant dedicated to treating industrial wastewater in Qatar. “It will bring in a remarkable facelift in treating industrial wastewater,” Ashghal stated. The project has been progressing steadily and remains aligned with its planned timeline.

Situated approximately 2 kilometers southwest of the Doha Industrial Area, the facility is designed to receive industrial wastewater delivered by tankers from industrial sites both within the Doha Industrial Area and from other locations.

The plant, with an estimated cost of QR 693 million, features integrated treatment systems and an initial capacity of 10,000 cubic meters per day. Ashghal noted that the infrastructure has been designed to accommodate future industrial expansion.

The project has already earned notable recognition, receiving the ‘Distinction’ Award from the British Safety Council and the ‘Gold Award’ from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) in 2023. These accolades highlight Ashghal’s commitment to partnering effectively to uphold the highest safety standards, raise awareness, and promote best practices. The honors followed the achievement of 3.5 million man-hours without any injuries since the project began.

In addition, the project has been certified under ISO 14001:2015 for Environmental Management and ISO 45001:2018 for Occupational Health and Safety Management. Ashghal mandates that contractors submit detailed, integrated safety plans outlining specific standards and procedures to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for all personnel.

To maintain these standards, Ashghal closely monitors contractor performance across all its projects. Contractors are required to submit regular progress reports to demonstrate compliance. Furthermore, Ashghal has introduced several initiatives aimed at strengthening the safety culture among contractors, including reward programs for companies that consistently uphold safety standards.
