The International Desalination and Reuse Association (IDRA) has named Robert “Bob” Okun as a Special Advisor. Okun is the CEO of The O Team LLC and previously served as Vice President of NBC Universal’s Washington, D.C. office. He brings more than 40 years of experience in public policy, government relations, and strategic communications.
In this new role, Okun will offer strategic counsel on IDRA’s communications and policy efforts, supporting the organization’s mission to advance sustainable water solutions on a global scale. His deep expertise in policy development and advocacy is expected to significantly contribute to IDRA’s global water initiatives.

Okun shared his excitement about joining the organization: “I am excited to contribute to IDRA’s mission of promoting sustainable water management. Effective communication and policy advocacy in the US and worldwide are crucial in addressing today’s pressing water issues.”
Throughout his career, Okun has held several high-level positions, including Assistant Secretary for Legislation and Congressional Affairs at the U.S. Department of Education. He also served in staff director roles in the U.S. House of Representatives and worked as Senate liaison for the House Republican Leadership.
