His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Nasser bin Abdulaziz, Emir of Jazan region, has inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 73 environmental, water, and agricultural projects worth SAR 4.7 billion (more than USD 1.2 billion), at an event with the presence of the Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, Engineer Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadhli, according to a press release by the National Water Company. The projects align with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, aiming to enhance sustainability, improve infrastructure, and provide better services to citizens.
These projects will modernize water supply networks, enhance wastewater treatment facilities, and boost agricultural sustainability. HRH the Emir emphasized the Kingdom’s commitment to ensuring a high quality of life for residents through these essential infrastructure developments.
Among the key projects, the Saudi Water Authority (SWA) will implement SAR 1.3 billion (about USD 346 million) in infrastructure upgrades, including technology replacements at Shuqaiq 1 desalination plant, as well as new security systems and water transport systems.
The National Water Company (NWC) is investing SAR 607 million (about USD 162 million) in 20 water and sanitation projects in the Jazan region, improving supply networks and implementing advanced wastewater treatment plants. Additionally, SAR 48 million (about USD 13 million) will be allocated to three projects by the National Center for Vegetation Development and Combating Desertification.
During the event, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture and Jazan University for research collaboration. These projects mark a significant step toward sustainable water management and agricultural development, ensuring Jazan’s long-term resilience and prosperity.
