Saudi Arabia’s National Water Company (NWC) announced that it began implementing water and sanitation projects worth SAR 4.9 billion ($1.3 billion) in the kingdom’s Southern Cluster in July, according to Zawya.
The projects involve constructing transmission lines and networks across the Asir, Jazan, Najran, and Al Baha regions.
In Asir, NWC has started 27 water projects covering districts and villages in Abha, Khamis Mushait, An Namas, Ahad Rafidah, Mahayel Asir, Al-Barak, Rijal Almaa, Tanuma, Tathleeth, Bareq, Dhahran Al-Janoub, Al-Wadiyan, Balhamar, and Al-Naqea. Plans include 2,177 km of transmission lines and networks, 16 water reservoirs with a combined capacity of 54,500 cubic meters, and pumping stations with a total design capacity exceeding 15,000 cubic meters per day, according to NWC.
The company has also begun 11 sanitation projects in Asir, covering districts and villages in Abha, Khamis Mushait, Bisha, Balgarn, Al Wadiyan, and the provinces of Al-Qahma, Tanda, and Al Haridah. These works include more than 357 km of pipelines and networks, a treatment plant in Al Qahma and Al Haridah with a total design capacity of 9,300 cubic meters per day, and lift stations with a combined design capacity of over 106,000 cubic meters per day. The Asir projects have a total cost of SAR 2 billion.

In Jazan, work has started on 19 water and sanitation projects totaling over SAR 1.5 billion. The scope covers more than 1,203 km of lines and networks. NWC said the nine water projects in the region will serve districts in Jazan City and the governorates of Damad, Bish, Sabia, and Abu Arish, with 397 km of water networks, two operational tanks with a total capacity of 15,000 cubic meters, and pumping stations with a design capacity exceeding 60,000 cubic meters per day.
Ten sewage projects in Jazan will cover areas in Jazan City, Farasan, Ahad, Al Masarha, Samtah, Sabia, and the centers of Al Hakkamiyah, Al Khadra, and Al Musim, with more than 806 km of lines and networks.
In Najran, NWC is implementing seven new projects in Thar, Bir Askar, Qatan, Al Mashaaliya, and Al-Hussayniya, including over 357 km of transmission lines and networks and pumping stations with a total design capacity exceeding 53,000 cubic meters per day. Two sanitation projects will connect existing networks in several districts, including Al-Ma’amar, Rajla, Al-Hussayn, Al-Qabel, Al-Jarbah, Al-Hudn, Al-Safa, Zor Al Harith, Zor Al Ameri, and most northern districts in Najran.
In Al Baha, the company has started 15 water and sanitation projects costing over SAR 591 million. These include more than 534 km of pipelines and networks. The water projects will serve districts in Al Baha City and governorates such as Baljurashi, Qalwa, Al Mekhwah, Al Mandaq, Al Qura, and Al Hajra, along with the centers of Nawan, Bani Kabir, and Al Jawah. Plans include 249 km of transmission lines and networks, eight operational reservoirs with a total capacity of 24,500 cubic meters, and pumping stations with a total capacity exceeding 16,000 cubic meters per day.
