Saudi Arabia’s National Water Company (NWC) is poised to award two major contracts in the water and sewerage sectors within the first and second quarters of 2025, reinforcing the Kingdom’s commitment to expanding its water infrastructure.
Water purification plant contracts expected in Q2 2025
NWC is expected to finalize the operation and maintenance (O&M) contract for three crucial water purification plants and associated water pipelines in the second quarter of 2025, reports Zawya.
The contract will encompass the O&M of the Labkha and Hawiyat purification plants in Al-Quwayiyah, which have a combined capacity of 5,000 cubic metres per day (m³/day), along with the Moral Guidance Institute purification plant in Al-Muzahmiyah, which has a capacity of 1,500 m³/day.
A source familiar with the project revealed to Zawya that the contract award is projected for Q2 2025, with the completion date targeted for May 2028. However, the estimated project cost has not been disclosed. The tender for this contract was issued on 19 February 2025, with a bid submission deadline of 2 March 2025.
Sewerage line extension in Riyadh to be awarded in Q1 2025
NWC has also announced, according to Zawya, plans to extend the main sewerage line in Al Jaradiyah, Riyadh, through an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract. This project, expected to be awarded in the first quarter of 2025, aims to enhance the sewerage infrastructure in the area.
The tender was issued on 4 January 2025, with bid submission closing on 27 February 2025. According to a source aware of the project, completion is slated for December 2026. The scope of work includes the construction of a 1,350-meter-long main sewer line, featuring a 1,200-mm diameter pipeline made of Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP). Additionally, the project involves the construction of 16 manholes, each with dimensions of 2.5 x 2.5 metres.
