Southern Rural Water names Scott Cornish as Managing Director

Southern Rural Water has appointed Scott Cornish as its new Managing Director following a nationwide recruitment process that drew more than 120 applications.

Cornish steps into the role after serving for the past five years as General Manager Asset Futures, where he oversaw strategic initiatives including the utility’s digital transformation programme and its long-term approach to asset planning and investment.

Cornish brings 25 years of experience in management and engineering, spanning the public sector and private consulting, with experience both internationally and across regional Australia.

Southern Rural Water Chair Joanne Butterworth Gray said the appointment recognises Cornish’s leadership credentials and familiarity with the organisation’s operations and stakeholders.

“Scott has demonstrated exceptional strategic capability, a strong commitment to our people, and a clear vision for the future of Southern Rural Water,” Ms Butterworth Gray said. “His leadership of our digital transformation and asset futures work has been instrumental in positioning Southern Rural Water for long term success. The Board is confident Scott will continue to strengthen our organisation and deliver for our customers and communities.”

The appointment comes as water utilities continue to focus on infrastructure resilience, digital modernisation, and long-term service planning to meet evolving operational and environmental demands.

Commenting on his new role, Cornish said he is looking forward to continuing engagement with employees, customers, and stakeholders across Southern Rural Water’s service area.

“It’s a privilege to lead an organisation with such a critical role in supporting regional communities, agriculture, and industry,” Mr Cornish said. “I’m excited to continue working with our dedicated teams to deliver reliable services, invest in resilient infrastructure, and ensure SRW is well positioned to meet the challenges and opportunities ahead.”
