About the entity

Southern Water Services has announced the award of four major contracts under its new collaborative framework for wastewater network services worth £466 million. The contracts form part of Southern Water’s preparation for AMP8, which is expected to be the company’s largest investment programme to date.

The framework aims to enhance the management and maintenance of Southern Water’s clean and wastewater networks, with a particular focus on implementing new technologies and proactive network operations. The investment supports key initiatives such as the Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP) and the Water Resources Management Plan (WRMP).

The framework is divided into four service categories (lots), covering a wide range of operational and maintenance activities. These include reactive repairs, planned preventative work, and the integration of innovative monitoring systems. Southern Water currently operates a digitalised smart network featuring over 23,000 sensors and nearly 1,000 duration monitors, designed to shift operational focus from reactive to proactive responses.

The following contracts have been awarded:

  • Lot 1: Operate and Maintain
Awarded to Lanes Group (Lower Wortley)
This lot covers initial responses to sewerage-related issues, maintenance of sewer collection networks, CCTV inspections, cleaning services, and the upkeep of sewer level monitors.

  • Lot 2: Civils & Rehab

Southern Water stated that the selected providers will work in partnership with the utility to deliver services in line with its engineering standards, focusing on both technical capability and collaborative delivery. The framework is designed to support long-term improvements in operational efficiency and environmental performance.
