Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering, has announced the acquisition of Ryan Hanley, a 150-person engineering and environmental consultancy with a strong presence across Ireland. The move aims to deepen Stantec’s footprint in the Irish market, particularly in the water sector.
Founded in 1931, Ryan Hanley operates from offices in Dublin, Galway, Cork, and Castlebar. The firm brings decades of technical expertise and local knowledge, delivering engineering and environmental services for public and private clients, including Uisce Éireann (UÉ), Ireland’s national water utility.
“Through deep and meaningful collaboration, Ryan Hanley and Stantec have proven our ability to deliver outstanding results for clients and communities in Ireland,” said Gord Johnston, Stantec’s president and CEO. “Together, our shared capabilities, expertise, and creativity will help address some of Ireland’s biggest challenges.”
The two firms have worked closely since 2020 through a joint venture supporting Uisce Éireann in its Engineering Design Services Framework, helping deliver a €3.5 billion investment. The JV was appointed to UÉ’s Capital Works PMO Services in 2023. The partnership has already earned industry recognition, winning in the sustainability and natural environment category at the 2025 Engineering Excellence Awards.
For Ryan Hanley, joining Stantec opens new opportunities in sectors like energy, transport, and community development. Managing Director Ger Gibney affirmed, “Over the last 90 years, we have grown to become a values-driven business... This will not change as Ryan Hanley becomes part of Stantec... We are all excited for what feels like a natural stage in our evolution.”
The firms currently share a Dublin city centre office, inaugurated in 2024 by former Taoiseach (Prime Minister) Simon Harris, symbolizing a strengthened alliance poised for future growth.
