During the official visit of Angola's President, João Lourenço, to Paris, SUEZ signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Angolan authorities to enhance collaboration in the water sector. This agreement aims to support the government's efforts to provide high-quality drinking water to the Luanda Province, home to 9.7 million people and experiencing rapid demographic growth.

Kelson Domingos, Administrator of EPAL-EP, said: “One of our biggest challenges is undoubtedly the reduction of technical losses, the PROÁGUA project1 will improve the company's efficiency with the recovery of the productive capacity of the Stations, combined with the training of human capital and commercial efficiency, the results of this project will surely mark a new era in the management of the Public Water Company, EPAL - EP and consequently the satisfaction of the population that longs for improved services.”

Pierre Pauliac, Group Deputy CEO & Chief Operating Officer Water, remarked: “Increasing access to high-quality drinking water is essential to improve the quality of life of the people of Angola, and to foster its economic development. SUEZ is honored to support the Angolan authorities in their ambition for the Luanda Province. I would like to thank them for their trust. This project is a new illustration of SUEZ’s commitment to enabling its customers to provide access to water services with resilient and innovative solutions.”

Access to clean drinking water remains a pressing issue for Angola's population, further exacerbated by climate change challenges. In response, Angolan authorities have launched an extensive program aimed at improving water production infrastructure. This initiative includes the construction of two water production plants, Bita and Quilonga Grande, along with expanded distribution networks.

SUEZ has entered into an MoU with Empresa Pública de Águas de Luanda (EPAL - EP), the public entity responsible for drinking water treatment and distribution in Luanda Province. This collaboration seeks to enhance, develop, and modernize the region's drinking water supply through targeted investments identified via specific studies.

The partnership is designed to optimize the benefits and ensure the sustainability of EPAL-EP's substantial investments. It aims to continue the rehabilitation and enhancement of existing water production and supply systems, renew and expand the distribution network, and improve customer relations, metering, billing, and collection processes.

Through this agreement, SUEZ intends to support Angola in transforming Luanda's water systems. As the country's economic hub and one of the largest urban centers, Luanda's growing population, currently exceeding 9.7 million with an annual growth rate of 3.4%, is driving an ever-increasing demand for drinking water.
