SWCC signs MoU for transformation in water desalination

  • SWCC signs MoU for transformation in water desalination

About the entity

Saudi Arabia’s Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) has announced a research cooperation memorandum of understanding (MoU) with an American company, reports Utilities Middle East.

The US-based firm is specialized in designing and manufacturing energy recovery equipment, as well as offering innovative solutions for the desalination sector.

According to the state-run Saudi Press Agency, SWCC’s goal is to benefit from a modern device to recover energy in the desalination process by reverse osmosis in desalination plants. The device could conceivably reduce energy use by more than 50%, raise the degree of brine concentration to 15%, and increase the production of desalinated water by 20%

The memorandum coincides with SWCC’s decision to shift to the second stage of the application of zero-return technique in desalination plants.

During the second phase, the firm will focus on reducing the operational and capital costs of the zero-return technique; increasing the concentration of brine; and reducing the cost of producing desalinated water from seawater.

The MoU not only backs innovation in desalination, it also creates constructive cooperation relations with global partners. The company will start applying the energy recovery device to the zero-brine technology.
