The Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC) has recently granted a contract to a consortium led by Alkhorayef Water and Power Technologies Co. (AWPT) for the development of the Rayis-Rabigh Independent Water Transmission Pipeline Project (IWTP), reports Utilities Middle East.
This build, operate, transfer (BOT) contract holds a value of $2 billion (SAR 7.78 billion).
This pioneering project in Saudi Arabia boasts a transmission capacity of 500,000 cubic meters per day, covering an extensive 150-kilometer route.
Its primary objective is to provide essential drinking water to the Makkah and Madinah regions.
The construction phase is slated to span over 30 months, with plans for commercial operations to kick off by the second quarter of 2026. The operational phase is anticipated to continue for 35 years.
With a substantial 50% stake in the consortium, AWPT is actively collaborating with key stakeholders to secure the necessary financial arrangements for the project.
