Thames Water is preparing to roll out an ambitious programme of major capital projects as part of the current AMP8 (2025-2030) and upcoming AMP9 (2030-2035) investment periods. At the heart of this effort is the new Major Projects Framework (Runway 3), designed to secure significant delivery contracts for essential water infrastructure projects.
The initiative aims to streamline procurement processes and foster long-term relationships with trusted suppliers. Thames Water is actively seeking experienced, innovative partners who align with the company’s goals to deliver crucial projects in the coming years. As part of this strategy, contractors selected for the framework will be guaranteed work upon entering into the Framework Agreement.
The utility is focused on reducing unnecessary bidding efforts while creating a platform for suppliers who can deliver high-quality, sustainable solutions. The company will be awarding contracts for works, goods, and services required for AMP8 projects, with the potential to extend these agreements into AMP9.
Strategic procurement and engagement
In a bid to ensure the most efficient project delivery, Thames Water plans to finalize agreements with selected partners by March 2026, subject to governance and procurement processes. The company is also placing strong emphasis on supply chain feedback to help fine-tune its approach, highlighting the importance of collaboration with the market.
“We look forward to working closely with the market to ensure the success of this programme,” said Thames Water representatives.
Supplier engagement and access to project data
Thames Water is inviting interested suppliers to take part in preliminary market engagement for the AMP8/9 major projects Framework. A detailed Head of Terms and project list have been made available via the company’s secure data room.
Suppliers interested in participating must complete an online form to register their interest, providing contact details for two representatives who will receive the relevant materials and be granted access to the project’s SharePoint site.
Framework details and timeline
The contract is expected to run from 30th March 2026 to 30th March 2033, with an additional potential extension lasting until 18th July 2035.
A formal tender notice for the contract is expected to be published by the end of September 2025, marking the next step in Thames Water’s strategic investment in its infrastructure and supply chain.
