Toray Industries, Inc. announced that its regional subsidiary, Toray Membrane Middle East LLC (TMME), officially began operations at the new Middle East Water Treatment Technical Center (MEWTEC) in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, this April. The facility is designed to deliver comprehensive technological support for water treatment, spanning from membrane products to complete treatment systems.
MEWTEC was established to address the growing demand for water in the Middle East, Africa, and neighbouring regions. It also responds to the rising need for advanced solutions in wastewater reuse and seawater desalination, critical to supporting both industrial development and urban infrastructure. With this center, Toray aims to rapidly apply its on-site technological expertise and accelerate the development of customised solutions to regional water challenges.
As part of Toray’s broader commitment to the region, MEWTEC strengthens the company’s capacity to offer prompt and specialized technical support, helping build long-term trust and partnerships with clients.
This initiative aligns with the Toray Group Sustainability Vision, which outlines the company’s long-term contribution to global sustainability by 2050. It also supports Toray Vision 2030, which aims to drive sustainable growth through advanced technologies. By expanding its reverse osmosis and other membrane technologies, Toray seeks to help alleviate water scarcity worldwide—especially in fast-growing and water-stressed areas such as the Middle East and Africa.
Key Features of MEWTEC
Advanced water quality and membrane analysis
The center is equipped with state-of-the-art water analysis tools and membrane evaluation systems. Returned membrane modules can be disassembled and inspected, allowing for precise diagnosis of performance issues and the development of targeted improvements.Pilot-scale reverse osmosis systems
On-site continuous reverse osmosis pilot equipment enables real-time performance testing and customization of water treatment solutions under realistic conditions.Hands-on access to Toray Technologies
A product showroom and training space allow operators and engineers to interact directly with Toray’s membrane technologies and gain skills to optimize their use in the field.Collaboration platform for R&D
MEWTEC includes an open laboratory space that facilitates joint research and experiments with universities, research institutes, and industry partners. This collaborative environment aims to support the advancement of water treatment technologies across the region over the medium to long term.
Toray’s investment in MEWTEC reinforces its role as a leading provider of water treatment solutions and underscores its commitment to sustainable development in water-scarce regions.
