About the entity

Toray Industries has supplied reverse osmosis (RO) membranes to the Shuaibah 3 IWP seawater desalination plant in Saudi Arabia through its subsidiary, Toray Membrane Middle East LLC, based in Dammam. The plant has a daily potable water production capacity of 600,000 cubic meters and provides drinking water to Mecca, Jeddah, Taif, and Bahah, addressing rising demand driven by population growth and tourism.

The Shuaibah 3 IWP project has transformed a conventional, energy-intensive seawater desalination facility into an eco-friendly setup using advanced RO membrane technology. A solar power system provides the plant with 65 megawatts peak power. This project is expected to reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by around 45 million tons and cut crude oil consumption by approximately 22 million barrels per year. It supports the sustainable development and decarbonization goals of Saudi Vision 2030.

The company plans to further contribute to stable water supplies in the region by expanding its product offerings and utilizing its new Middle East Water Treatment Tech Center to enhance its sales

The company plans to further contribute to stable water supplies in the region by expanding its product offerings and utilizing its new Middle East Water Treatment Tech Center to enhance its sales, technical, and production capabilities. These efforts align with both Saudi Vision 2030’s industrial localization and sustainable development goals and Toray’s own Vision 2030, which focuses on sustainable growth.

Toray manufactures a wide range of membrane technologies, including RO and ultrafiltration membranes and membrane bioreactor modules, addressing needs in drinking water, industrial, agricultural, and wastewater treatment. The company will continue to offer advanced water treatment solutions and support technical services in regions experiencing growing water demand, particularly in the Middle East, where demand is expected to rise with industrial expansion and population growth.
