VA Tech Wabag secures a $100 million order in Dubai

VA Tech Wabag, a pure-play water technology giant headquartered in Chennai, has won an engineering and procurement contract worth $100 million for the 120 Million Gallons Per Day (MiGD) Hassyan Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) plant in the United Arab Emirates, reports The Times of India.

The Hassyan Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) is the record-breaking world’s lowest water tariff project (US$ 0.278/m3). Utico FZC was chosen as the preferred bidder by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, to build the facility and operate it over a period of 35 years, under the Independent Water Producer (‘IWP’) model.  

In December, Utico announced that the plant is on course for timely completion. The Phase 1 of the plant is currently being constructed and includes the necessary facilities for Phase 2, an expansion of 240m gallons per day that will make it the largest single-site desalination plant in Dubai and the world.

The project is worth $450 million and will include a 600 million gallons per day seawater intake system for phase 1 and Phase 2, 2x 132KV substations, and 120 million gallons of potable water storage tanks. As well as Dissolved Air floatation systems, Multi Media filters, Self-Cleaning Filters and Sustainability aspects including such as Solar PV system and economizers along with one- of-its-kind re-use and low chemicals use system.
