VA Tech WABAG, a multinational water technology group, has secured a large order to construct a new wastewater treatment plant in Georgia. The project, awarded by the United Water Supply Company of Georgia LLC (UWSCG), will involve the construction of a 19 Million Litres Per Day (MLD) wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in the city of Kutaisi, the third-largest in Georgia.
Funded by the European Investment Bank (EIB), the project will see the development of a state-of-the-art facility designed for future expansion, with the capacity to increase to 56 MLD. The scope of work includes demolishing the existing plant, building the new WWTP, and installing an effluent pipeline that will direct treated water to the River Rioni.

As the lead consortium partner, WABAG will handle the design, engineering, supply, installation, and commissioning of the treatment systems. Additionally, the company will provide training for client personnel and supervise the operation and maintenance of the plant for 12 months after commissioning.
The treatment plant will utilize advanced mechanical and biological methods, with nutrient removal based on the activated sludge process, final sedimentation, and UV disinfection. It will also feature sludge treatment facilities, solar sludge drying systems, odor control systems, and associated pumping infrastructure.
This contract marks WABAG's first venture into the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region and the Georgian market, enhancing its position as a global leader in sustainable water management solutions.
