United Utilities has announced that eight companies have been chosen to help carry out work on its reservoirs over the next ten years

As part of plans to safeguard supplies for seven million people in the North West, the company has picked partners to carry out investigations, maintenance, repair and the replacement of assets across its fleet of reservoirs.

The two frameworks are worth an estimated £205m and the eight partners that have been chosen are Askam Civil Engineering, AE Yates, Bethell Construction, Bachy Soletanche, Cleantech Civils, JVT Construction, Kier Integrated Services & Stonbury.

United Utilities has 184 reservoirs – more than any water company in England and supplies around 1.85bn litres of drinking water to its customers on a daily basis.

Jane Simpson, Commercial Engineering and Capital Delivery Director for United Utilities, said: “Our reservoirs are critical for keeping customers’ taps flowing across the North West as well as being iconic sites that many people enjoy visiting.

“The eight partners we have chosen will bring great expertise to help ensure we can maintain these reservoirs and provide our customers with the great quality drinking water they expect.”

It comes as United Utilities embarks on the largest investment in water and wastewater infrastructure for a century.  The company will be spending more than £13bn over the next five years to protect and enhance over 500km of rivers, lakes and bathing waters whilst safeguarding drinking water supplies for millions of customers across the North West.
