United Utilities response to coronavirus outbreak

  • United Utilities response to coronavirus outbreak

About the entity

United Utilities
We are United Utilities, the North West's water company - keeping the taps flowing and the toilets flushing for 3 million homes and 200,000 businesses across the region.

One of the United Kingdom's largest listed water companies, United Utilities, has released a statement on the firm's response to the coronavirus outbreak:

We wanted to let you know what we’re doing in response to the Coronavirus outbreak to protect our staff and customers.

We’re following the government health advice to make sure our customers and our colleagues stay safe and we are putting all the necessary measures in place to ensure this advice is followed by everyone.

We understand this is a challenging time and we’ve put our robust business continuity plans into action so we can make sure we can still supply our water and wastewater services to all customers across the North West.

Advice from the World Health Organisation is that the water treatment process – specifically the addition of chlorine which is routinely used for disinfection – will kill the virus.

Remember, only flush the three Ps – pee, poo and paper. Please do not flush any kitchen roll, wet wipes or newspaper down the toilet as these can cause major blockages in the sewers.

Helping us all stay safe

As a critical essential service provider, we will continue to do our very best to ensure your water and wastewater services continue. The health and safety of our employees is really important to us, and we’re asking for your help and support to protect them and you and your families. If you are due a visit from one of our teams and you’d rather postpone, we’ll completely understand and be happy to re-arrange this.

We hope you understand that we are also checking as we arrange and before we actually visit your home whether anybody in the home is ill or in self-isolation.

If we should call at your home and you’re unwell, please let our teams know immediately so that we can take the necessary precautions to keep you and our teams safe.

Priority Services

If you or any of your family and friends have particular health issues and haven’t yet registered for Priority Services, then please go here https://www.unitedutilities.com/help-and-support/priority-services/ so we can be aware of your needs and do our best to support you in terms of your water services. If you know someone who isn’t online then you can register them on their behalf.

Keeping in touch with us

We continue to have various ways you can contact us online via social media, our mobile app and our online account management service via www.unitedutilities.com. Our phone lines continue to remain open as normal if you do wish to speak to us directly.

We have many ways of keeping customers up to date including our website, social media feeds and an automated telephone message service – we will use these to keep customers updated as the situation evolves.
