About the entity

ACCIONA
The water business of ACCIONA concentrates on water treatment and reverse osmosis desalination, a technology in which it is the world leader.

Themes

ACCIONA is currently carrying out three projects simultaneously in South-East Asia: the Tseung Kwan O desalination plant in Hong Kong; the Nhieu Loc Thi Nghe wastewater treatment plant in Vietnam and the Laguna Lake drinking-water plant in the Philippines.

Once completed, these three projects will provide a service to around three million people.

The greatest progress so far has been in the Tseung Kwan O desalination plant in Hong Kong, where work is 14% completed, above the planned timescale. This facility incorporates reverse osmosis technology and will have a treatment capacity of 135,000 m3/day to supply 850,000 people.

The foundations of the buildings that will house the main process have been completed, as well as the electrical substation. Work is continuing on the assembly of the electrical equipment and on the preparation of the platform to instal the pile driving and microtunneling system in the collection tank (SWI).

For its part, in the Nhieu Loc Thi Nghe wastewater treatment plant in Vietnam, ACCIONA is working on the engineering of the platform and dykes where the plant will be located, and on the detailed process engineering. All the preliminary work has been completed, including the clearing of the site, the removal of the first 50 cm of soil and the construction of the berm to pump the sand for the filling of the platform.

The plant will treat the wastewater of Ho Chi Minh City, the most populated city in Vietnam, with a capacity of 34,000 m3/hour to provide a service to a population equivalent of over 1 million.

The most recent project by ACCIONA in the region is the Laguna Lake drinking-water plant in the Philippines. Construction work on it started early this year, and work is now being done on the detailed engineering and other preliminary tasks (site offices, earthworks and road access diversions).

The Laguna Lake DWTP has a capacity of 150,000 m3/day and will supply over 1 million people in Muntinlupa, at the southern end of the Metropolitan area of the capital, Manila.
