Baihetan hydropower station, owned and built by CTG, has put its No.2 power unit into operation on July 24 after passing a 72-hour trial, pulling off the feat in 26 days after safely commissioning the first two power generators as scheduled on June 28.
With the fourth hydraulic generator going into operation, Baihetan hydropower station has now commissioned 25 percent of its generators. The hydropower station will be equipped with 16 domestically designed hydro-generating units, each with a capacity of 1 million kilowatts, the largest single-unit capacity in the world.
The 50-meter-tall generator, which is composed of the runner, the rotor and the main shaft, weighs around 8,000 tons, equivalent to the weight of the Eiffel Tower. The three previously commissioned power generators have been running soundly. The commissioning of the fourth power unit will boost Baihetan’s clean electricity generation capacity.
