The new Wales chair of the Consumer Council for Water (CCWater) has set his sights on securing the best possible deal for customers as the price review nears its conclusion.

Rhodri Williams has taken his seat on the water watchdog’s Board after being appointed by the Minister for Environment, Energy and Rural Affairs, Lesley Griffiths.

His immediate task will be to champion the interests of water customers in Wales during the final stages of the 2019 price-setting process which will determine how much people pay for their water and sewerage services over the next five years – and what water companies must deliver in return.

He said: “I am delighted to have the chance to make sure the water companies in Wales deliver outstanding services for consumers at a price we can all afford. I intend ensuring that customers in Wales get more for their money as we enter the final weeks of the 2019 price review. I will be listening to what consumers across Wales have to say about what is required to secure improvements to those aspects of the water companies’ services which are of greatest concern to them.”

Williams boasts a wealth of experience in utilities and consumer protection having served as Ofcom’s first Director in Wales where he played a leading role in ensuring people, particularly in rural areas, received access to fast broadband speeds and mobile services.

The father-of-two, who lives in south-west Wales, is a vastly experienced journalist who has worked in a wide range of executive and non-executive roles across the private and public sector. He is currently a non-executive Board Member of broadcaster S4C.
