Themes

ALTAIR V4 represents the new generation of volumetric meters developed within the framework of the MID (EU Measuring Instruments Directive), compatible with different water qualities. In addition, it boasts very accurate measuring and a very compact design to adapt to the most difficult environments. We talk at length about this revolutionary product with Robert Santiso Vázquez, Head of Operations for Spain and Portugal, Diehl Metering S.A.S.

Question: What is ALTAIR V4 and what are its applications in the water sector?

Answer: Altair V4 is the fourth generation of the most advanced volumetric meter technology, developed by Diehl Metering to be used with hot and cold water. Although its main application is residential use, it can also be used in most commercial applications.

Q: Please tell us about its main features.

A: What makes the Altair V4 different from the rest is its outstanding accuracy, with the highest MID metrological approval in the market. Its modularity means it can be connected to any option of the broad range of solutions developed by Diehl Metering for remote reading and network management, adding value to the daily activities of utility companies. It can be installed vertically or horizontally, or in any other position, with no measurement losses, providing flexibility to designers and builders.

Q: What problems related to water cycle management does it address?

A: Volumetric measuring technology ensures greater accuracy thanks to its high metrological approval; it works better in applications with a high content of sand thanks to the new geometric design developed by Diehl in its hydraulic core. It also includes anti-fraud features, very much appreciated by utility companies.

Q: How does it differ from other products in the market?

A: A metrological class of up to R=800 is a clear differentiator. The casing, available in brass or composite versions, gives it great mechanical resistance. Its resistance to fraud and tampering by the end user, together with total connectivity to Diehl remote reading solutions, make the Altair V4 a clear benchmark in the market.

Q: What did the launch of this product mean for the water sector?

A: An innovative volumetric meter with leading technology, including the latest developments in hydraulic optimisation, a very high metrological class and a modularity that allows it to integrate with the different remote reading alternatives (landline network or mobile network).

Q: What are the business and development expectations for this type of product in the water sector?

A: The global trend is for our clients to focus on solutions with the highest possible accuracy, with high mechanical resistance with different water qualities, high metrological class throughout its useful life, and full flexibility to be fitted to different remote reading and control solutions. Altair V4 satisfies all of these requirements.

Q: Of all the projects where this product has been used, Which ones would you highlight due to their impact on the water sector?

A: In every project, large or small, we have observed a value added, both for the utility company and for the end user. The consumer only pays for his/her real consumption, whereas the utility company ensures more effective management of its water resources and supply network.

Q: Finally, how has technology changed in the water sector? And what are the main challenges ahead?

A: Utility companies no longer look for isolated meter solutions. Measurement technology is very important, as much as remote reading and network management solutions. The greatest challenge for the sector is offering SOLUTIONS that integrate these two key aspects, incorporating meters in communications and network management platforms. Diehl Metering works constantly in this area, offering a broad range of alternatives to our clients.
