Melbourne Water have re-tendered an existing contract for the continued delivery of maintenance and minor capital works across its service delivery function.

The agreement with the current service provider, Wood, will expire in June 2022. The new contract has been awarded to Programmed.

Being an essential service and as part of standard business practice it is routine for Melbourne Water to review contracts upon expiry.

Melbourne Water Managing Director Dr Nerina Di Lorenzo said Programmed presented an outstanding offer covering technical capability, an embedded safety culture and proven track record in progressive social procurement activities.

“Programmed are culturally aligned with Melbourne Water values and have a strong focus on creating and supporting high performing teams,” Dr Di Lorenzo said.

“In addition to this, Programmed have demonstrated capability, skills and experience across the water sector, being a key service provider to Sydney Water, Greater Western Water and previously Water Corporation WA.”

Managing Director and Group CEO at Programmed Glenn Thompson said Programmed was well placed to support the delivery of clean water and waste treatment works for Melburnians.

This new project will build on our current work in the water sector where we deliver critical water services efficiently, safely and with a focus on continuous improvement,” Mr Thompson said.

We’re also looking forward to supporting the community, including Indigenous Australians, through our successful job training and employment program.”

Melbourne Water would like to acknowledge the work Wood has achieved over the past nine and a half years. Wood have driven continuous improvement and efficiencies in a range of initiatives which have improved service delivery outcomes. These ongoing enhancements have ensured the reliable operation of our critical infrastructure and efficient delivery of services to our community.

Dr Di Lorenzo said Melbourne Water’s day to day work remained unchanged.

“Wood continue to be a critical partner for our business, and both Melbourne Water and Wood remain fully committed to ongoing delivery and continuous improvement within the scope of the current contract,” Dr Di Lorenzo said.
