  • Aramco invites developers to submit proposals for Jafurah desalination plant

About the entity

After cancelling the tender for the planned 100,000 cubic meter per day desalination plant in the country’s Jafurah gas field last month of December 2020, Saudi Arabia’s Aramco now invites developers to submit proposals for an independent water producer (IWP) desalination project at its Jafurah gas field of 100,000 cubic meter per day.

“The tender for the main contract was re-issued on 17 October 2021 with bid submissions scheduled for end of January 2022,” a source told Zawya Projects

According to the same source, the contract award is expected by March 2022, and the project is expected to be commissioned by the fourth quarter of 2024.

Energy & Utilities reports that the Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) has been appointed as financial adviser, with White & Case and ILF Consulting Engineers appointed as legal and technical consultants respectively.

Believed to be the largest unconventional gas field in Saudi Arabia, Jafurah is part of the company’s $3.2 billion unconventional resources programme, which aims to develop shale gas in three areas of the kingdom.
