Aurecon, an Asia Pacific design, engineering, and advisory firm, has been selected by PUB, Singapore's National Water Agency, to conduct slope stability assessments across the nation’s water infrastructure network.
The 36-month project will involve evaluating slopes over 300 kilometres in length, covering major open waterways, catchment land, and reservoir dams. This comprehensive assessment is part of efforts to ensure the long-term safety and resilience of infrastructure crucial to Singapore’s water security.
Jean-Marc Girard, Chief Operations Officer for Asia at Aurecon, said: "This project affirms the importance of proactive management in safeguarding Singapore's water infrastructure. We are committed to partnering with PUB to identify potential risks and implement targeted strengthening measures for long-term resilience."
Aurecon’s role will encompass asset risk management, slope stability engineering, slope instrumentation and monitoring, site investigation and surveys, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) capabilities.
A key challenge for the team is the large scale of the inspection work, which includes assessing over 31 kilometres of slopes across 11 major catchments such as Punggol, Changi, Kranji, Pandan, and Geylang, along with 3 kilometres of PUB catchment land and 21 reservoir dams. The project must be completed on a tight schedule while managing accessibility concerns in some areas. To address these issues, Aurecon will use digital solutions like 360-degree cameras and GIS technology to capture data, ensuring a sustainable monitoring system for PUB in the future.
Er. Khine Hnin Yi, Technical Director for Geotechnical at Aurecon, noted the specific challenges posed by Singapore's tropical climate and geology. "Our team, led by Lead Geotechnical Engineer Faridansyah, will leverage advanced assessment techniques and technical expertise from local and regional teams to deliver practical solutions while minimising environmental impact," she said.
