About the entity

Yun Seog-dae, the CEO of K-water (Korea Water Resources Corp.), has been appointed as the fourth chairman of the Asia Water Council (AWC) during the council's recent general meeting in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, reports The Investor.

Serving a three-year term until 2026, Yun expressed his gratitude for being elected and acknowledged the significant responsibility that comes with addressing global water challenges for sustainable development. He pledged to collaborate with the newly appointed board members to advance the AWC's objectives.

Established in 2016, the Asia Water Council serves as a prominent collaborative platform in Asia, linking countries in the region and international organizations like the United Nations to tackle water-related issues. K-water, as South Korea's leading water management agency, spearheaded the formation of the council and currently holds the chairmanship and organizing committee positions.

The recent general meeting marked the Asia Water Council's first in-person gathering since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Attended by over 200 stakeholders from 50 Asian nations, including notable international organizations like the UN Development Programme and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the three-day event commenced on Wednesday.

During the meeting, 29 new board members, including Chairman Yun, were elected as third-term directors. The collective efforts of the board are anticipated to drive climate change adaptation and elevate the AWC's stature in the international arena. Furthermore, the council aims to enhance its influence and expand investments in the water sector, positioning itself as a pivotal platform for global cooperation beyond Asia.

On Friday, Chairman Yun engaged in a luncheon with seven ambassadors from countries such as Malaysia and Tajikistan. The ambassadors presented collaborative projects aimed at strengthening their respective countries' capacities and technological advancements in the water sector.
